Liverpool Initiates Move to Sign Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon

Liverpool have reportedly taken steps to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer, according to Graeme Bailey. Gordon, who joined Newcastle from Everton in January last year, had a productive campaign last season with 11 goals and 10 assists in 35 Premier League appearances.

Amidst speculation over the potential departures of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, Liverpool is in the market for a new winger. The club has identified Gordon as a key target. The Reds’ scouting department highly rates Gordon, believing he has the potential to reach the “very top.” Consequently, Liverpool has initiated discussions with Newcastle regarding the terms of acquiring his services.

However, Newcastle’s valuation of Gordon at around £100 million presents a significant challenge for Liverpool. The Englishman, known for his versatility to play on either flank, explosive pace, and diligent work ethic, fits Liverpool’s criteria for a winger. Despite his suitability, Gordon’s past association with Everton could complicate a move to their arch-rivals.

Additionally, negotiations have encountered another hurdle, with Newcastle reportedly seeking Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah as part of the deal. Liverpool is expected to respond with an alternative proposal.

Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon underscores their commitment to reinforcing their forward line. However, whether they can navigate the complexities of this potential transfer remains to be seen. The coming weeks will reveal if Liverpool can secure Gordon’s signature amidst these challenges.
