Rivers United Rejects $150,000 Transfer Offer for Andy Okpe

In a noteworthy move within the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Rivers United has reportedly turned down a lucrative $150,000 transfer offer from SuperSport United for their star striker, Andy Okpe. The decision reflects Rivers United’s strategic focus on strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 NPFL season.

According to Nigerian media sources, including prominent journalist Mike the Pundit, Rivers United is committed to retaining Okpe, who has been a key player for the club. Okpe, who scored seven goals in 33 league appearances during the 2023-24 season, has reportedly submitted a transfer request, signaling his desire to explore new opportunities.

Despite the significant offer from SuperSport United, Rivers United is prioritizing squad enhancement as they prepare for the new season. The club’s performance in the previous campaign fell short of expectations, with Enugu Rangers securing the league title. As a result, Rivers United is undertaking a comprehensive squad restructuring to improve their competitiveness.

Reports indicate that other clubs are also interested in signing Okpe, with offers around $100,000 being considered. However, these reports remain speculative until an official statement is released by Rivers United or their media representatives.

Rivers United’s decision to reject the transfer offer highlights their intention to build a stronger team capable of challenging for the NPFL title. As the 2024-25 season approaches, all eyes will be on how Rivers United navigates the transfer market and reshapes their squad.
